Over Father's Day weekend, my parents came to visit. This visit was particularly awesome because my Dad brought two of his friends and together with Nick, they built amazingly gorgeous redwood raised garden beds in our backyard. Four of them, 18" high. I am so excited! They slaved all day for us, and I am so thankful thinking off all of the yummy veggies that will come from them. Next we'll have to get them all filled in with dirt and I imagine that will be quite the project as well. We may not have a big garden this year, but I am looking forward to many years of awesome gardens to come!
Oh yeah, and they brought us some new chickens too:
While they were in town, I enlisted my mom to help me make a dress so that I can learn to fit myself properly and make the correct size. You'd think this would be pretty easy, but it's quite difficult to pin yourself without pinning yourself. So anyway, my mother, the expert seamstress obliged and I now have a much better idea of how to fit myself. Not only that, but we made this adorable dress together too! The pattern is "Peony" by Colette Patterns and the fabric is from the Cocoon collection by Valori Wells. The dress is the "Cashmere" print and the belt is the "Shine" print. I've already got fabric picked out for another dress! I think this pattern is actually going to become a year-round staple for me. The pattern included a longer sleeved option and I love wearing dresses in the winter with tights and boots. I am pretty happy with how this turned out and can't wait to get started on another!
Lastly, I wanted to let you all know about a fun KAL that is starting up today! When I went to Stitches West this year, I made a few new friends, one of which is the delightful Lorajean Kelley from Knitted Wit yarns. She has two darling little boys and works from home dying up stunning yarns to sell in her Etsy shop, trade shows, and yarn shops! I just love her yarns and actually am working on a design for this fall using one her heavier yarns. I am also participating in this super fun Yarn Club called "Among Friends" that she and Brooke from Sincere Sheep have partnered up to host together. I love everything they have sent me so far!
In any case, the KAL that starts today is being hosted by Lorajean (check out her intro post on her blog) and she is using my Sierra Sunset Cowl pattern (free at www.jimmybeanswool.com)! If you have been thinking about knitting this pattern, come on over and join in the fun! The KAL chat will be happening in the Sass Class on Ravelry which is Knitted Wit's group. The pattern calls for about 200 yds of a DK weight yarn so check out Knitted Wit's Polwarth DK if you need something to knit with! We'd love for you to join us for this super fast knit!
Hope you all have a great rest of your week and happy knitting!
